Boyeun Lee, Postdoctoral Research Associate, Lancaster University | At the end of the 20th century, the Internet of Things term was first introduced. Since then, the phenomenon behind this technological development is still fast-growing, with estimates of more than 75 billion IoT devices readily connected to the Internet by 2025. Designing interconnected objects means rethinking value creation and development practices and requires bigger responsibilities to designers. This lecture explores the challenges and opportunities around the Internet of Things (IoT) development and value creation, addressing the question of how designers should approach IoT development specifically with a critical focus on trust and ethics. Students will understand IoT’s attributes and how these attributes transform business and design practices and processes through the lecture.
